Things You Need To Know: 

1. Primary Date:

September 8

2. Registration Deadline:

  • The deadline to register online to vote is Sunday, October 4, 2020.

  • The deadline for registering by mail to vote is (postmarked by) Sunday, October 4, 2020.

  • The deadline to register in-person to vote is Sunday, October 4, 2020.

  • The deadline to request a ballot by mail is (received by) Tuesday, October 13, 2020.

3. Polling Times:

7 a.m. to 8 p.m

4. Is Early Voting Available:

Yes, The early voting period runs from Wednesday, October 14, 2020, to Monday, November 2, 2020, but dates and hours may vary based on where you live.

5. Can I Vote by Mail:

6. ID Needed for Voting:

Forms of identification (one required)

  • RI driver's license

  • U.S. passport

  • ID card issued by an educational institution in the United States

  • U.S. military identification card

  • ID card issued by the U.S. government or State of Rhode Island like a RIPTA bus pass

  • Government-issued medical card

  • RI Voter ID

if you are a first-time applicant for voter registration in Rhode Island you must provide either your valid driver's license number or valid RI ID number issued by the RI Division of Motor Vehicles. If you have not been issued a valid RI driver's license or RI ID number, you must provide the last 4 digits of your social security number. If you gave not been issued either, then please indicate that on the form after you have printed it from the OVR. If you do not provide this information or your driver's license or social security number cannot be verified, you will be required to present one of the forms of identification listed below at the time of registration, prior to voting or at the time of voting. Non-photo identification must have the voter's name and address on it. If you indicate on the form that you have not been issued a Social Security number or a RI driver's license, you will still need to present identification at the polls.

No ID requirement to vote by mail & No notary or witness requirement for return of mail ballot (per consent decree)

7. Voting Without Address
