Whether it’s voter registration drives or candidate forums or voter education sessions, voter engagement efforts are already underway in communities throughout the country. WHY OUR HOMES, OUR VOTES IS LOOKING FOR AFFILIATES: 

  • Helps us increase awareness of local and state-level organizing throughout the nation

  • Identifies which organizations can potentially benefit from campaign support

  • Plugs in more national efforts to provide better coordination and reduce duplication of efforts

  • Allows for better tracking of data on results of various efforts by measuring voter turnout from low-income renters in areas with active campaigns

  • Provides opportunity to connect various local efforts with one another and provide opportunities for peer learning

  • Enables sharing of templates, tools, resources, and ideas

  • Receive guidance and assistance from NLIHC staff in developing and administering your local efforts

  • Feature in the Our Homes, Our Votes newsletters that describe important local efforts of tenant associations, housing providers, community organizations, and national partners

Any organization is welcome to participate. There is no cost to be an affiliate. Here are the requirements:

  • Commit to advancing housing issues in the election

  • Work to promote voter registration and turnout among low-income voters

  • Conduct all activities in a nonpartisan manner that does not endorse any candidates for office – NOTE: endorsing ballot initiatives is completely acceptable and not considered partisan activity
